Metformin (old drug for diabetes) apparently has potential for slowing the ageing process.

It can’t just be that it decreases hepatic production of glucose.

As far as I can work out metformin (through biguanide–protein interactions ) may have ‘key role’ on microbiota which in turn influence and regulate age-associated morbidities.!!!

Ahhh this might be key – plus it looks like it might activate AMPK and therefore inhibit the mTOR pathway. Maybe it slows cell division?

That might explain why it is apparently it is also effective in CVD and some cancers.

Research is underway into the treatment/prevention of gynecologic malignancies as well as prostatic cancer

Plus I would love to know what Calico (Google) are up to 🙂
